Recipe for the Week
Gluten free -snack – Chakli- Murukku
Ingredients:
- Rice flour -2 cups ( bought from the Indian store)
- URAD dal flour -1/4 cup ( bought from the Indian store)
- Red chilli powder -1/2 tsp
- Asfoetida ( Hing)-2 tsp
- salt -11/2 tsp
- Seasme seeds( white or black) -3 tsp
- Melted butter -4 tsp
- Water for making dough -3/4 cup
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
Method :
- Sift rice flour and urad dal flour in a bowl.
- Add melted butter, sesame seeds, salt, hing, red chilli powder, required water to make a stiff dough
- Heat oil in a kadai, on a low flame
- When a pinch of dough is put in the oil, it should rise on top
- This indicates the oil is hot enough
- Make a small ball out of a dough( like a golf ball size)
- Take a chakli press and put the dough in it
- I have used a star ⭐️ shaped attachment
- Make small circular turns on a butter paper sheet about 5 pieces at a time
- Then put in hot oil ( on low fire) cook till it’s light golden brown
- There is less bubbles on the surface, showing it done
- Remove with a slotted spoon on a strainer.
- Let it cool and store in air right containers
- Serve as a tea time/ mid morning snack
